Mark groaned and forced himself out of the bed. We'll see who's hiding like a child, Todd

David Benson. Dammit. I can function just fine. From his dresser he pulled out the gift card he'd

received for his birthday which was, ironically, also from Todd. He ran his hand down his face

and rolled his eyes. Whatever. He straightened his clothing and flipped open his cell phone and

called Dylan.

"Dude, it's me."

"How's it going, man?"

"Eh... sucky. I need to blow this joint for a while. Wanna go hang? I got money."

"Always a good thing. I'll pick you up in a few."

"Cool. I’ll be out front."

When Mark walked through the living room, he saw George and Katie watching a movie

together. He glanced at the screen—it was nothing he recognized. "Going out for a bit. To the

store," he informed them.

"Did you eat?" Katie asked.

"It's all right, Mrs. B. I'll have dinner at the store. How you feelin’, Grampa?"

George shrugged. "Best as can be, I guess. Not much pain with all them pills I'm takin'.

You staying out real late?"

Mark shook his head and patted down his wild hair. "No, I'll be back by 9, maybe 10."

"Okay, boy. Good for you to get out some. You're up in your room too damn much. Not

good for a body to skip eatin'."

"I know, that's why I'm gonna eat there. You're right—I need to get out more."

"Need a ride, honey?" Katie offered.

"No, thank you." He looked out the window, spotting Dylan’s familiar truck. "Dylan's

here now. I'll see you later."

"Have a good night, honey."

"You too.”

Mark climbed inside the truck. "Hey, man! Thanks for comin’."

"No problem. So what's shakin' in the world of Wittington?"

"Too damn much. Let's go, I'm starved."

"You got it."
